0 Fayetteville, WV Fayetteville, WV Full-time Full-time From $30,000 a year From $30,000 a year 2 days ago 2 days ago 2 days ago Fayette County Humane Society Job Description Director of the Shelter Beckwith, WV The Director of the Shelter reports to the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Humane Society and works collaboratively with the Fayette County Commission to manage the day-to-day operations of the Fayette County Animal Control Center and to facilitate the adoption and rescue of animals housed within the shelter.
The director is responsible for the supervision of the shelter staff, management of the shelter budget, and implementation of fundraising and educational programming.
The director is also responsible for complying with all federal and state laws concerning the humane treatment of animals and welfare of animals in the care of the shelter.
The director will support the mission of the shelter to address animal welfare in Fayette County, including working to improve the lives of domesticated animals that have been abused, neglected, or abandoned.
These efforts will include support of legislation, educational programming, and providing veterinary care for animals housed within the shelter.
Duties and Responsibilities Supervision of shelter staff to include developing work schedules and tasks; evaluating staff performance; management of personnel records; hiring and training of new staff; and implementing human resources policies and procedures Establishes and maintains appropriate office protocols and procedures to insure the effective operation of the organization, including but not limited to development and presentation of financial statements; timely payment of invoices; maintaining accurate and complete records; and management of operational inventory Establishes and implements a humane standard of care for all animals housed in the shelter and insures staff compliance Fosters a positive relationship with the shelter staff, the Board of Directors, Fayette County Commission, and the community Works collaboratively with the Fayette County Animal Control Officer and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide all documentation required for animal cruelty, abuse, and neglect investigations Development and implementation of fundraising programs and events to support the shelter Works collaboratively with designated shelter staff on the development and implementation of effective and appropriate social media outreach Works collaboratively with shelter staff to develop and implement rescue partnerships and adoption of animals housed in the shelter, including adoption events Works collaboratively with the Fayette County Commission to insure compliance with state code regarding fees, treatment of animals, and the maintenance of the facility Develops and provides to the Board of Directors and/or the Fayette County Commission reports documenting the status of the shelter, including but not limited to monthly/annual animal statistics reports; inventory; revenues; and expenses Education and Experience Must be 18 years of age or older Associate's degree preferred, high school diploma required Valid driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) Four years of experience in a veterinary office, shelter, or similar environment Four years supervisory experience Experience with non-profit management and working collaboratively with governmental agencies, community groups, volunteers, and/or animal welfare organizations Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to multi-task Operate a variety of equipment related to the care of animals housed within the shelter, including but not limited to an animal transport vehicle; animal restraint equipment; and general office equipment and software Accurately add, subtract, divide, and multiply Effectively organize tasks and daily work assignments Carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form Maintain confidence around animals Ability to work independently or with little supervision, including for the planning and implementation of various projects Provide excellent customer service to the general public, including during high-stress situations Must be able to analyze data, determine trends, and apply the results Ability to interact with a variety of constituents Physical Demands These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements for the successful performance of the essential duties of the Director of the Shelter.

The employee is required to regularly stand for extended periods; frequently walk, stoop, kneel or crouch; lift or move up to 35 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally, while also recognizing some canine breeds or farm animals may exceed 100 pounds.
Pulling, pushing, tugging, and towing when transporting animals by leash or cage is also frequent.
Exposure to dangerous or factious animals, animal bites, and scratches is frequent and regular as part of the restraint of temperamental, aggressive, and sick animals.
The physical agility and mental acuity to handle these sudden and potentially dangerous situations is a must, especially in cases where euthanasia is required.
Work Environment The employee is regularly exposed to a moderate to loud noise level.
Use of and exposure to strong cleaning chemicals and disinfectants and other allergens occurs daily.
Works both inside and outside throughout the year in a variety of weather conditions.
Part of the job requires working without the aid of air conditioning and heating for periods of time.
This position requires work on weekends and holidays to maintain the effective care of the animals housed within the shelter.
